LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential is an interesting way to learn science in practice for students in grades 1 to 3 of primary school. The set is part of the LEGO teaching system and is based on fun and storytelling. In this way, it encourages students to explore issues related to STEAM subjects, while developing their language and mathematical skills and supporting socio-emotional development. The set includes 449 blocks and four minifigures of characters with different personalities, whose stories and problems will interest all students. Models built by students will come to life thanks to programming (using blocks with icons and verbal commands) of simple equipment – a smart Hub with two ports, two small motors, a light matrix and a color sensor. The LEGO blocks included in the set are colorful,age-appropriate pupils and known to all children,and the whole is complemented by spare parts and a durable container with trays for sorting by color,which make it easier to build and clean up after the classes.SPIKE Essential, part of the LEGO learning system, offers five modules containing eight 45-minute classes compliant with STEAM teaching standards. Comprehensive lesson plans with exercises to develop mathematical and language skills are available for each class. We also provide assessment criteria and training videos for teachers. In order to increase the confidence of teachers and prepare them for the effective use of the LEGO teaching system in STEAM classes, we have prepared a comprehensive professional development program related to the SPIKE Essential offer.
