Description and application

LaCie d2 Professional is an external hard drive designed to store and quickly transfer large amounts of data for creative professionals and users of workstations and laptops with limited storage space. The device works well as a memory extension for video editing, post-production, project archiving and working with large media libraries.

Performance and Media

Inside the enclosure, the Seagate IronWolf Pro enterprise-class drive with a speed of 7 200 RPM was used, designed for intensive workloads up to 300 TB per year. The design of the drive and its power management ensure stable transfers with large files and continuous operation, and the real read and write performance reaches up to about 290 MB/s, which speeds up the transfer of design materials.

Interfaces and compatibility

The device uses the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface via USB Type-C, offering a bandwidth of up to 10 Gbps compatible with modern computers and tablets equipped with a USB-C port. The drive works with Windows and macOS, and the connection to the iPad via USB-C port allows you to access and manage files without additional adapters.

Housing and cooling

The housing made of one element of aluminum acts as a heat sink, which increases the rigidity and durability of the mechanical structure and accelerates heat dissipation. Inside, a quiet fan works, which supports temperature dissipation during intensive operation, minimizing the risk of overheating and maintaining stable disk parameters.

Power supply, dimensions and equipment

d2 Professional requires an external power supply (100 – 240 V, 50/60 Hz) and is not powered exclusively from the USB bus. Typical energy consumption is about 18 W. The dimensions of the device are height 188,5 mm, width 60 mm and depth 130 mm, with a weight of about 1,4 kg. The set includes a USB Type-C cable and basic LED indicators informing about the activity of the disk.
