Entering a new world
Transfer of BA converters to a new dimension
Creating FA19, our goal was to create a truly monumental IEM with multiple armature transducers. We wanted to shake up the current market of the flagship multi-BA driver IEM. We have spent three years refining this model to achieve this.
For the ten balanced armature drivers on which the FA19 is based, we worked closely with Knowles. Together, we built a custom, amplified bass driver specifically for the FA19 to provide the listener with a deep low-frequency immersion unparalleled in the multi-BA driver IEM. In addition, FiiO worked closely with Knowles to optimize midrange and tweeter drivers so that the headphones not only sounded very detailed, but also pleasantly smooth. For FA19, we have carefully tuned all parts of the frequency response curve to produce a truly consistent and highly resolving sound.
Welcome to the new world of multi-BA IEM, through which FiiO FA19 will guide you.
Fast as the wind, powerfully strong
Project 10 Knowles BA
FIIO FA19 was designed based on both science and actual listening tests. For the FA19, we decided to use the following drivers for each unit: 4 custom Knowles BA bass drivers, 2 Knowles ED BA midrange drivers and 4 Knowles SWFK BA tweeters.
More transducers in IEM provide many benefits. It significantly increases the energy density in a given frequency range, which translates into greater playback detail. This is especially noticeable during dynamic audio fragments, where more drivers are able to better cope with the current nuances, ensuring that the resulting signal is not compressed. Thanks to this, IEM is able to better reproduce the original sound.
When tuning IEMs, it is important that the transducers have sufficient power reserves. Then the engineers have enough resources to use to achieve their sound goals. This may simply not be possible with fewer transducers.
Therefore, the FA19 uses ten outstanding BA transducers. In addition, the physical + electronic three-way crossover accurately segments different drivers operating in different frequency ranges, resulting in clear, reference monitor-like sound quality. FA19 is an IEM that reaches the pinnacle of sound quality with an electrifying punch, being able to faithfully reproduce every little detail of the audio.
Discovering the essence of bass again
Improved Custom Knowles BA Bass Pickups
FIIO worked closely with Knowles to create a custom armature bass driver. By improving the airflow throughput of this transducer, we increase its overall energy. In addition, the FA19 uses four of these custom drivers per channel, which additionally provides enough drivers to produce detailed and powerful bass. The result is really resonant, effective low tones.
Bass amplification system with negative feedback
With four custom balanced bass drivers per channel, developed by FIIO in collaboration with Knowles, the FA19 offers abundant bass. Engineers creatively used precision 3D DLP printing technology to create a housing that helps direct low-frequency energy into the back cavity of the headphone, effectively lowering the resonant frequency there – which is a negative feedback bass amplification system. The result is bass that reaches an extremely deep level, which is rare among in-ear headphones of this class.
In addition, this ensures adequate ventilation of the front cavity of the headphone, effectively preventing discomfort when wearing caused by excessive pressure in its front cavity. In this way, the negative feedback system also improves the wearing comfort and size of the soundstage, so that the wearing experience is not sacrificed to high-fidelity sound.
Scientific approach to HiFi
Medium Frequency Cutter
The smooth curve of medium frequencies results not only from the quality of the central unit, but also from meticulous tuning by professional acousticians. The FA19 uses two classic Knowles ED mid BA pickups, known for their high resolution, preferred by discerning listeners. However, if not implemented correctly, they can sometimes show sibilants that negatively affect the overall listening experience. To remedy this, the engineers specifically designed a medium-frequency filter at the bottom of these two mid BA transducers.
Working principle of medium frequency cutting filter FA19
As the frequency of sound waves approaches the resonant frequency of the cavity, frictional vibrations occur between the walls of the cavity and the air, converting specific frequency bands of sound energy into mechanical and thermal energy, thereby dissipating sound energy and absorbing sound. Conversely, when the frequency of sound waves deviates from the resonance cavity, the resonance effect inside the cavity weakens, resulting in less sound absorption.
Based on this principle, the mid-frequency cutting filter is designed for FA19 to weaken the high-frequency signals of the medium-frequency unit, thus achieving physical bandwidth.
Approach to frequency with surgical precision
Audiophile grade Rubycon crossover capacitors
Immerse yourself in every striking note of your music with a precise crossover. FA19 uses audiophile grade foil capacitors as electronic crossover components that are characterized by exceptional precision. While typical resistors used in crossovers have an error tolerance of about 1%, FA19 resistors have an impressively low error tolerance of 0,1%. In this way, compared to ordinary ceramic capacitors, the FA19 not only works more precisely with the crossover, but also features an increased resolution of high frequencies without sacrificing tonal finesse.
One button, two worlds
Monitor/HiFi mode switch
Choose from two carefully crafted listening modes, easily switching it to the back of the IEMs. Use FA19 as a tool to produce sound anytime, anywhere.
· —: The “Monitor” mode provides clear and detailed sound, especially in the treble range, making the FA19 an excellent tool for audio production.
· ON: “HiFi” mode that adds power to mids and lows, with a focus on bass to give it more power and volume. It's the perfect way to experience the pleasant sound of HiFi.
First class experience
3D DLP printed housing
To successfully implement a negative feedback bass amplification system and ensure high overall sound quality in the FA19, the housing has been made with advanced DLP-3D printing technology with precision up to 0,0375mm, which ensures accuracy of workmanship to meet our ambitious sound quality goals. The housing is made of photosensitive resin, which is very durable and can provide solid protection for precision components such as BA transducers.
Patented acoustic design S.Turbo
FA19 incorporates FIIO’s patented acoustic turbine-shaped S.Turbo design. By extending the channel that directs low frequencies, it serves as a filtering device that effectively eliminates high-frequency sound waves from BA bass drivers. This ensures a smooth transition between low and medium frequencies. This also leads to a better division between low and medium frequencies, resulting in a cleaner sound that better reflects the original sound of the music.
High-end cable for amazing sound
FA19 comes standard with a high purity pure silver cable, consisting of 8 conductors of 28 wires each, resulting in a total of 224 wires. Each individual wire is independently insulated and the cable is braided using Litz structure. The cable cover is made of imported transparent, environmentally friendly TPU, which improves the appearance of the cable. In addition, this TPU material effectively prevents yellowing due to prolonged use and cable stiffening due to use in low temperature environments.
